Students in regions and states whose answer sheets were destroyed by fire due to the Mandalay earthquake started retaking the university entrance exams on June 16, according to the Ministry of Education.
A total of 376,956 answer sheets of 6,2954 candidates from Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay and Sagaing regions and Kachin State were destroyed by fire caused by the Mandalay earthquake that struck on March 28.
Therefore, the university entrance exam for students of the regions and states whose answer sheets were destroyed by fire are being re-conducted from June 16 to 21 without any holidays. It is seen that the number of students who retook the Myanmar language subject on June 16 is big, and officials of relevant examination centres and security personnel are systematically managing security measures to ensure that the students could retake the exam peacefully.

In Sagaing Region, there are 8,205 students who registered to retake the exam, and of them, 8,045 students came to take the exam, which is the rate of retaking the exam is over 98 percent, U Thet Lay Oo, the head of education of Sagaing Region, said.
U Soe Aung, deputy director of the Department of Alternative Education, Ministry of Education, has said that the State has provided necessary books and other materials for students who will retake the exam as well as teachers who taught them closely in each subject and that the 2025 university entrance exam results will be released together only after the exam that is being reconducted due to the Mandalay earthquake.
