The Ministry of Education has announced that basic education schools will start accepting student enrolment on May 22 for the 2025-2026 academic year and will not charge any fees.
The announcement stated that the school enrollment week will be set at the basic education schools from May 22 to June 1, and five-year-old children will be enrolled in Kindergarten (KG) and six-year-old children in Grade 1.

When enrolling in basic education schools, no fees will be charged including school fees, parent-teacher association fees, sports fees, stationery fees and library fees. Students who will attend the new curriculum from Kindergarten (KG) to Grade 12 will be provided with school textbooks, blank books, school uniforms and stationery as free support, the announcement said.
In addition, guidelines have been issued for principals, teachers and staff to know and follow such as not collecting or accepting any fees, not accepting money or gifts and not selling class badges, school badges or any other items, the announcement said.
Similarly, parents of students are also requested to enroll their children only in designated areas by township and not to give money or gifts to principals, teachers and staff, the announcement said.
According to the Ministry of Education, more than six million students enrolled in schools during the basic education enrollment week of the 2024-2025 academic year from May 23 to June 1.
