Locals in Shwenyaung, Shan State (South, have been experiencing flooding due to incessant rains these days, according to the local residents.
It has been raining daily since June 10, causing flash floods in Taunggyi, Shwenyaung and Yatsauk as mountain streams swelled with water.
As the streams swelled with water due to the heavy rains, causing water to flow into houses and roads in Yadana Ward, Shwebontha Ward and Mingalar Shwebo Ward in Shwenyaung. Shwenyaung usually experiences floods only in September and October every year, and floods are not common in June, said a local resident.
In addition, the water levels in Nyaungshwe, Kalaw and Inlay areas have also been rising slightly due to heavy rains, according to local residents. In Shwenyaung, officials, fire brigade members and members of social assistance organizations helped the local residents in the flooded wards and villages move to flood relief camps opened in Zeyarthiri Dhammayon and Dekkhinayama Monastery.
