Seismometers and GPS devices have been installed in Yangon Region to monitor earthquakes and ground motion, according to Myanmar Earthquake Committee. The devices have been installed at Maha Vizaya Pagoda in Dagon Township, Nine Mile, Dagon Myothit (North )Township, and North Okkalapa Township in Yangon Region.
The installation of these seismometers will help better understanding of the location and movement of earthquakes, said U Saw Htwe Zaw, Vice Chairman of the Myanmar Earthquake Committee. GPS devices can monitor ground motion that could cause a major earthquake, and they are installed to measure faults in townships such as Bago, Yamethin, Heho, and Loei Lin, focusing on the Sagaing Fault.

Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS), the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology and the Myanmar Earthquake Committee jointly started installing the seismometers and GPS devices in 2011. Now, in addition to 17 stations equipped with ground motion measuring devices, more than ten seismometers have been installed in Myanmar, according to the Myanmar Earthquake Committee.
