There is a need to increase exports in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone, said Dr. Kan Zaw, Chairman of the Central Working Body on Myanmar Special Economic Zone and Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations. He made the remarks at the first meeting of the Central Working Body on Myanmar Special Economic Zone for the financial year 2025-2026 held on June 9.
Union Minister Dr. Kan Zaw said that efforts should be made to increase exports and reduce the country’s trade deficit as much as possible. He also said that businesses in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone should be more closely linked with Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to develop the micro, small and medium-sized enterprises sector.

Similarly, Dr. Kan Zaw said that the Kyaukphyu Deep Sea Port of the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone should continue to operate in accordance with the laws, rules and regulations, and that those who will come and invest in the Dawei Special Economic Zone should also operate in accordance with the laws, rules and regulations of the Myanmar Special Economic Zone.
According to the National Planning Act for the Fiscal Year 2025-2026, exports are predicted to exceed US$14.7 billion, while imports are likely to exceed US$14.3 billion, for a total trade volume of more than US$29 billion.
