Myanmar and Russia will cooperate in energy trade as Myanmar has pipelines capable of exporting gas internationally, Union Minister of Energy U Ko Ko Lwin told One News.
Myanmar has energy resources suitably enough but it has not yet been fully explored. Therefore, the country will seek technical assistance from Russia.
Myanmar will build LNG terminals and export it through pipelines to Thailand and China and will also distribute sufficient natural gas in the region. In addition, with the cooperation of Russia, Myanmar will build oil refineries with Russia to produce fuel oil and will produce fertilizers as well, the Union Minister said.

During the visit of the SAC Chairman and Prime Minister to Russia, Union Minister of Energy U Ko Ko Lwin met with First Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Mr. Pavel Sorokin and Head of International Relations Department of the Russian state-owned oil and gas company Zarubezhneft Mr. Alesksander Boldyrev at Radisson Collection Hotel in Moscow recently.
At the meeting, they discussed investment in construction of an LNG terminal near the Dawei Deep-sea Port for domestic and international use, investment in construction of natural gas pipelines connecting the LNG terminal, investment in construction of an oil refinery in the Dawei Special Economic Zone, assistance in meeting Myanmar’s fuel needs at affordable prices, assistance in applying advanced technologies in oil and gas exploration and production and conducting a feasibility study for Russian companies to invest and cooperate in offshore blocks with good potential.
