3,000 tonns of imported cement arrived to Shwepyithar Muttama port, Yangon on February 21 and began to distributed in the market.
It is said that cement has been allowed to be imported to meet domestic cement demand because of open season when the construction work is underway at a rapid pace across the country and domestic production capacity also has been strengthened for domestic construction projects.

Cement, which is essential for the construction industry, was allowed to be imported through the Kawthaung border trade post and sea routes starting from the last week of January and expected to arrive in February. Cement is mainly imported from China, Thailand, and Malaysia. Furthermore, a total of 19 cement factories, 16 privately owned and 3 state-owned, are still needed to be fully operational.
