Domestic edible oil mills produce 60,000 tons of edible oil per month, U Tun Tun Oo, Vice Chairman(1) of The Myanmar Edible Oil Millers Association (MEOMA),told One News.
To meet the domestic demand of 100,000 tons of oil per month, 50,000 tons of oil are imported monthly. It is important to cultivate more oil crops to meet the domestic consumption said U Tun Tun Oo.
Currently, oil seed production of whole country is 200 millions of baskets and 70 percent of them are used for edible oil production. 300 mills are registered in the whole country and the number will be nearly 5000 in total including unregistered ones in rural areas.
