The market for musical instruments is experiencing a decline in sales, and prices have risen significantly, according to local music stores.

In previous years, sales used to be strong as the Thingyan approached, however, now sales have dropped by about 50 per cent compared to the past five years and prices have increased by two and a half to 3 times, said Ko Htun Htun Lin, owner of a “30” musical instrument shop in Pabedan Township, Yangon.

Ko Htun Htun Lin noted that when it comes to musical instruments, more people prefer to buying old ones than new ones. Keyboards are the most popular among musical instruments such as keyboards, guitars, and violins. The old keyboards cost around Ks.100,000 to Ks.300,000, while the new ones cost around Ks.1000,000. Currently, it is the summer school holidays, so more people are buying musical instruments as alternatives to their children’s phones.
