Earlier this year, sales of battery-powered motorcycles and bicycles were sluggish, according to market inquiries. The sale slowed down due to the price reduced to half and difficulty of electricity to charge, said some of battery bike and motorcycle shop owners.
Due to rising prices, most of buyers bought old bikes valued under Ks, 100,00 rather than new ones, said a battery-powered bike shop owner in Thingankyun township. Formerly, a battery powered- bicycles valued in market price round about Ks.700,000 or 800,000 is now valued Ks. 1.5 million.
A new battery-powered motorcycle costs around Ks. 1.5 million to Ks.3 million, while a new battery-powered bicycle costs around 1.2 million kyats. Some buyers reportedly resold the items at a loss of half the market price.
