Local farmers informed that earlier this year, prices for the rice varieties of the Emata and Nga Sein groups in some regions, including Yangon and Ayeyarwady Region, had slumped by about 300,000 kyats per 100 baskets compared to the end of 2024. At the end of 2024, the price of the rice varieties of the Emata and Nga Sein groups was over 1.8 million kyats per 100 baskets, but now it is only about 1.5 million kyats per 100 baskets.

The price of domestically consumed Shwebo Pawsan rice is stable at around Ks.300,000 per 100 baskets without any fluctuations. A farmer in Ayeyarwady Region said that farmers were worried about the weather damaging to their paddy in the last monsoon paddy season and they are hoping for a good price for their paddy in the upcoming summer paddy season. Prices of new rice varieties such as Ziya, Ngwe Toe, Min Ayar and Shwe Mann, which are both exported and consumed domestically, have also decreased by around 3,000 kyats per 108-pound bag compared to January.

According to rice market, the prices of old rice is stable without fluctuation. Similarly, as it is paddy harvesting times in the international paddy cultivating countries as well as India sells its rice at a reasonable price, the price is falling in international markets. The basic reference price for 100 bags of 46-pound per bag of paddy, free from chaff, dirt, dust, sand, and lead, and meeting the specified quality standards, has been set at Ks.950,000 for the 2024 monsoon paddy and 2025 summer paddy.
