Plans are underway to officially start exporting Myanmar avocados in avocado season of the fiscal year of 2026-2027 in accordance with the requirements of the General Administration of Customs (GACC) of China, according to the Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association (PyinOoLwin District).
The association has been working on the plan since 2019 to officially export Myanmar avocados to China through the Government-to-Government (G2G) system under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund 2022 project.
To export Myanmar avocados to China, video inspections are planned in October, November and December this year to monitor the pest control measures at avocado farms and avocado packing plants.
If the inspection is successful, the necessary coordination for the trade of two countries will take about a year. Therefore, exports will only be possible in the 2026-2027 fiscal year, U Myo Nyunt, chairman of the Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association (PyinOoLwin District) said.
If the fruit is allowed to be exported to China under the G2G system, Myanmar’s avocado export market will develop further. Currently, avocados are exported to Thailand via the Kentung-Tachilek border trade route, and more than 10,000 tons of avocados have been exported this fiscal year.
In Myanmar, avocados are mostly grown in Shan State and Mandalay Region, and the avocado season is from November to January every year. Currently, the Plant Protection Division of the Department of Agriculture is conducting detailed inspections of avocado farms to determine if there are pests as well as providing preventive methods.
