The shops at Mandalay High-end Zaycho Market which were temporarily closed due to the Mandalay earthquake, will soon reopen completely to the public, said U Kyaw Kyi Min, joint secretary of the Mandalay Zaycho Market Association.
The Mandalay Zaycho Market, which had been temporarily closed, reopened on a limited basis on April 21.
By April 23, approximately 80 per cent of the shops on the ground floor had reopened and some shops on the first and second floors also reopened. U Kyaw Kyi Min, joint secretary of the Mandalay Zaycho Market Association said that efforts are being made to fully reopen all shops in the coming weeks.
The Mandalay Zaycho Market and Mann Myanmar Plaza buildings were inspected by local and foreign earthquake resistance inspection teams on April 4 and 7, and were allowed to reopen after they were found to be strong. The Mandalay Zaycho Market, which has thousands of shops, sustained only minor damage from the Mandalay earthquake, primarily involving some peeling mortar.
