Following the powerful Mandalay earthquake, the price of a bag of cement has risen to over Ks.40,000 kyats depending on the variety, and there is a shortage of materials, according to reports on construction materials in the market.
Before March 28, the price of a bag of cement, depending on the variety, was only over 20,000 kyats, but it gradually rose after March 28, and now it has reached a minimum of Ks.37,000 to over Ks.40,000 per bag.
Despite these rising prices, some construction materials stores in Yangon said that some cement brands are out of stock in the market.

The Sinmin (3) Cement Factory, Alpha Cement Factory, and Kyankhnakaung Cement Factory have reportedly been shut down due to damage caused by the Mandalay earthquake.
To meet domestic demand and strengthen domestic production, cement is permitted to import. Currently, ships carrying cement are arriving continuously from the Kawthaung border trade post. On the evening of April 7, a ship carrying 1,500 tonnes of cement arrived at Shwe Pyi Thar Shwe Mae Port in Yangon and distribution has begun on April 8.
The annual demand for cement in Myanmar is over 10 million tonnes, while domestic production is only 8 million tonnes.
