The Department of Customs has announced that importers can apply for import recommendations from the Department of Fisheries and the Department of Livestock Breeding and Veterinary through using the Myanmar Automated Clearance System (MACCS) starting February 15.
Currently, the said departments are carrying out the process of import recommendations manually.
The Department of Customs has coordinated with the relevant departments to implement the MACCS instead of the manual system. Some importers have commented that this move will make trade operations faster and smoother.
The Department of Customs began implementing the MACCS in 2023. The system has been implemented at Yangon ports and Thilawa Port since November 2016 as well as at border trade gates such as Muse and Chinshwehaw.
