The Department of Customs has announced that importers of aquatic products will have to use the Myanmar Automated Cargo Clearance System (MACCS) starting from February.

The Department of Fisheries will use the Customs Department’s MACCS system to reduce the use of paper and conduct business electronically in line with the goals of the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) and to facilitate the electronic transmission of information required for trade transactions. Importers will have to apply for MACCS User Code and E-Token along with documents at the Customs Department starting January 15.
Therefore, entrepreneurs who intend to import seafood for domestic consumption must submit an application for the MACCS with the necessary documents before importing seafood, the announcement said.
According to the Department of Fisheries, US$521 million were earned through exporting more than 400,000 tons of seafood in the period of nine months from April to the end of December of the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
