The Myanmar garment industry is planned to grow to a $15 billion industry in the next decade, according to the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA)’s 10-year Strategic Plan (2025-2034).
The industry plans to employ 1.2 million to 1.6 million workers over the next decade. By 2025, the industry stands as an industry worth about US$5 billion, and it is planned that Myanmar’s garment sector will attract a large number of foreign investments in the next decade. The garment industry will manufacture value-added products to increase income and get access to more global markets.
Currently, garment workers are being trained, and nearly 400,000 workers will be trained over the next decade. Myanmar’s garment sector still faces challenges, and these challenges and issues are significant obstacles to the development of the Myanmar garment sector, according to the MGMA’s 10-year strategic plan. China’s investment is the largest in the domestic garment industry with 60 percent, followed by South Korea and Japan.
