Action has been taken against people who sell building materials including cement at exorbitant prices, and those who sell cement made with fraudulent methods, according to a statement released by the Information Team of the State Administration Council.
A joint team of relevant officials conducted a field inspection over building materials shops in some cities in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, Yangon, Mandalay, Bago and Sagaing regions and Shan State on April 23 to ensure that building materials will not be sold at exorbitant prices due to the increased demand for cement in the market after the Mandalay earthquake.

During the inspection, 30 shops were found to be making a profit of 10 to 15 percent above the original purchase price and 32 shops making a profit of 15 percent or more above the original purchase price, and action is being taken against eight people including a building materials shop selling cement made with fraudulent methods in Yadana Thiri Ward, Taunggyi, in accordance with existing laws. It has been announced that those who sell building materials at excessively high prices will also be identified and that action will be taken against them.
