Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than said that measures must be taken to distribute and sell cement produced by local factories to earthquake-hit areas.
He made the statement regarding the distribution of cement during his visit to the Max Myanmar Cement Factory in Nay Pyi Taw on April 20.
The powerful earthquake damaged residential buildings, factories, and roads and bridges causing a huge need for cement in the reconstruction work.
Therefore, the Union Minister said that it is necessary to restore the full capacity of factories including cement, iron and steel, roofing and roofing sheet, plywood and brick factories.
The locally manufacturing plants such as Sinmin (3) Cement Plant, Alpha Cement Plant and Kyanhnakaung Cement Plants were reportedly shut down due to damage caused by the Mandalay earthquake.
The Max Myanmar Cement Plant also suffered some damage cause by the earthquake, but has been operating normally since April 15. From April 3 to April 20, Max Myanmar Cement Factory distributed 10,150 tonnes of cement.
During this period, cement imports for domestic construction projects are allowed, and ships carrying cement from abroad continuously arrive every week.
