The Yangon Region Public Transport Committee (YRTC) is working together with relevant authorities to prevent pickpockets from affecting passengers on YBS buses, according to the committee.

In doing so, 120 pickpockets were arrested on YBS buses from January 14 to 31, and a vehicle, 282 phones, 11 bags and one million kyats were seized as evidence. On January 1, two YRTC inspectors posted in front of New Bogyoke Aung San Market were threatened with being stabbed to death by a pickpocket group because they could not work. In that incident, the authorities chased down the pickpockets because of the threat.
Travelers should be careful to avoid being pickpocketed on YBS buses when getting off the buses, and action is taken upon the report on a pickpocket case, U Lyan Cin Mang, joint secretary of YRTC, said.

In Yangon, nearly 3,700 YBS buses per day operate on 132 routes for more than 1.5 million passengers, according to the YRTC’s report published on February 9.
