There have been over 10,000 applications for online business registration, according to the Department of Consumer Affairs.
The online business registration application began on October 2, 2024, and nearly 1,300 companies and over 9,000 individual entrepreneurs have applied for registration so far.
With the official registration of online businesses, both consumers and entrepreneurs will have more responsibility and accountability, U Htet Win Aung, deputy director of the Consumer Affairs Department of the Ministry of Commerce said.
Starting January 1, 2024, on-site verification of the information will be carried out for the businesses that apply, and only those that are complete and correct will be registered.
A notification was issued by the ministry on July 21, 2024, declaring online sales as an essential service. The notification states that anyone who operates online sales without a registration certificate will be subject to action under Section 5 of the Essential Supplies and Services Act.
