Measures must be taken to release laws and notifications to install solar system when constructing new buildings and the excessive electric power must be transferred into national grid, said State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister at the Prime Minister Office Admiral Tin Aung San.
Admiral Tin Aung San who is also chairman of the commission highlighted the message at the Electric Power and Energy Development Commission meeting held on January 7. Myanmar primarily relies on hydropower and natural gas to generate electricity. It is also necessary to expand the use of renewable energy sources beyond current levels.
In addition, as SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing also instructed to carry out solar power generation businesses, to control the water in Ayeyarwady river and to build low dams in available places to generate electricity, it must be implemented as soon as possible.
The current electricity production capacity is only about 2,200 megawatts per day, and only 50 percent of the production capacity can be distributed, according to the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.
