The price of charcoal stick which is substitute for firewood and charcoal has risen more than before, according to charcoal stick producers and sellers. The charcoal stick is made of the mixture of crushed charcoal, saw dust, mud and water.
The price of current crushed charcoal is Ks.3,000 per bag rising form Ks.1500 per bag as well as the shortages of saw dust and skilled labour. Formerly, a bag with 40 charcoal sticks costed Ks.4000 is now priced Ks.4,500 per bag, said U Aung Ko Latt, a producer of charcoal stick in Magway.
Firewood and charcoal stick produced in Magway is mainly transported to Yangon as well as regional townships such as Yaynanchaung, Chauk, Kyaukpadaung and Natmauk. The trading charcoal stick is more active in raining season rather than open season.
