Prices of chrysanthemum and the relevant market are profitable and favourable for flower farmers in Minbu Township, Magway Region, this season, according to the local flower farmers.
Some 14 types of chrysanthemums are grown in Paukpintwin Village in Minbu Township, and the market price varies depending on the type of flower.
Among the chrysanthemum types, the price of a chrysanthemum known as Kywayphyu is around 200 to 300 kyats for a flower and that of other varieties such as Shwewawin, Sapeiphyu, Kyauksein, Shwesein, and Myasapeiphyu is 1,000 kyats for a handful.
Although the price is higher this year, the fungus caused them to spend more money on planting, U San Kyu, a flower farmer from Paukpintwin Village, Minbu Township.
Last year, the highest price for a Kywayphyu chrysanthemum flower was only 200 kyats and that of other chrysanthemums was around 500 kyats for a handful. Seedlings for the type of chrysanthemum grown in Minbu Township are delivered from Taunggyi and PyinOoLwin at a rate of 12 kyats per plant.
