The La Niña phenomenon occurring in the Pacific Ocean may affect Myanmar during the coming summer, said U Hla Tun, director of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
A relatively strong La Niña phenomenon may affect on the surface temperature and atmosphere of tropical Pacific ocean near the equator and a little strong La Niña condition may continue in January. Although La Niña condition appears in the Pacific Ocean, wave of whirlwinds from the east, more low pressure areas appearing in the Bay of Bengal and more than normal rainfall may occur due to the affects of La Niña process.
In the coming summer, untimely rainfall and colder than normal weather conditions may occur because of the affects of La Niña process, U Hla Tun said. There will be cold normally and no cold wave may pass through in the current winter in Myanmar. In addition, the La Niña process will be release in real time.
