Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said it is learnt that only 10% of the cultivated land in Meiktila District can be irrigated. He made the remarks at a meeting with departments and MSME entrepreneurs in Meiktila District on January 10.
Despite having the difficulties in obtaining water for cultivation, finding a way will lead to achieving a success to overcome the challenges. In addition, it is learnt that the agricultural land in Meiktila District is not good, resulting in low yields. Therefore, it is necessary to find ways to improve the soil, including fully applying the required inputs, planting cash crops, and adding natural fertilizers.
According to the data of the Meikhtila Township General Administration Department, Meiktila Township has more than 143,000 acres of net cultivated land, 7,815 acres of fallow land, and more than 142,000 acres of uncultivable land. There are 10 self-sufficient diversion dams and 91 reservoirs to supply water to agricultural lands, but there are no river water pumping projects or dams/sluice gates.
