Two special zones will be designated for high oilseed crops production in Magway Region, according to the Magway Region Agriculture Department.
In this regard, Zone-1 includes Magway, Chauk and Aunglan districts and Zone-2 Minbu and Thayet districts. These two zones will be implemented in 17 townships within the five districts. In these zones, it is targeted to cultivate a total of more than 2.4 million acres of oilseed crops, and peanuts, sesame and sunflower will be planted. Sesame is mainly grown during the rainy season, and this year, more than 1.2 million acres of sesame will be cultivated.

In sesame cultivation, high-yielding varieties such as Sinyadana (3) and Sinyadana (4) are the most widely grown. In order to produce 20 baskets of oilseeds per acre, the Department of Agriculture has been working to ensure use of good seed varieties, soil development and technology provision. In addition to oilseed crops, rice, pulses, cotton, which is an industrial crop, and others are grown in Magway.
