Prices of betel leaf and nut in Magway market rose more than previous year, according to betel leaf and nut merchants in Magway.
The price of the best betel leaf used by betel quid sellers cost Ks. 20,000 per viss and the medium and lowest leaf cost over Ks. 10,000 and around Ks.15,000 per viss. In the current year, the best betel leaf cost around Ks. 25,000 per viss and medium and lowest leaf cost from Ks. 15,000 to about Ks. 20,000 per viss.
In this year, the production of good quality betel leaf decreased, said U Zaw Win, a betel seller in Magway. Similarly, in betel nut market last year, the price of best quality betel nut was Ks. 8,000 per viss. In this year, the price of best betel nut rose up to Ks.20,000 per viss. The betel sellers predicted that the current price in Magway market will remain stable up to the time before Thingyan.
