It is expected to earn US$354 million in export of seedless corn in the 2025-2026 fiscal year, according to the Myanmar Pulses, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association.
It is expected to export 1.36 million tons of maize this fiscal year.
In addition to seedless corn exports, the country is also planning to produce and export various value-added maize products such as pickled corn and corn syrup, said U Soe Win Maung, advisor to the association.
Last fiscal year, 2.4 million tons of maize were exported, earning US$574 million in export revenue.
Myanmar’s seedless corn is mainly exported to Thailand, and Thailand allows Myanmar corn to be exported duty-free for seven months from February to the end of August every year. In addition to Thailand, the corn is exported to India, the Philippines and Vietnam.
According to the statistics of the Bayintnaung Commodity Wholesale Centre in Yangon, the FOB price of a ton of millet is between US$255 and US$265, and the wholesale price for a viss of millet in the Yangon market is around over 1,700 kyats.
