The Ayeyarwady Region Hluttaw needs to regulate the fertilizer allocation in the region, said U Kyi Ko Ko, Chairman of the Energy, Industry, Transportation and Construction Affairs Committee. U Kyi Ko Ko made the remarks during a visit to Fertilizer Factory No. 5 in Kangyidaunt Township, Ayeyarwady Region, led by the Ayeyarwady Region Hluttaw Speaker and Hluttaw representatives on June 6.
U Kyi Ko Ko said that the Hluttaw needs to closely monitor and regulate the fertilizer quota produced by the factory to ensure that farmers receive it. The factory produced more than the target in the 2025-2026 fiscal year, and when it sold it according to the quota, it only sold one bag of urea fertilizer at the set price of 30,000 kyats, said U Thet Min Tun, the factory manager. He said that this fiscal year, the target of 37,000 tonnes will be met, and the fertilizer produced by the factory only meets 3 percent of the country’s needs.
The Department of Agriculture is taking responsibility for extracting 923 tonnes of the 2,801 tonnes that the factory is currently allowed to sell, according to U Thura Lin, deputy factory manager. Since Ayeyarwady Region has more than 3.6 million acres of agricultural land, the Hluttaw and the government need to coordinate to ensure that the output does not decrease and that the inputs needed by farmers are quickly available, according to Representatives of Hluttaw.
