The negotiations were underway to be able extend the free export of the black gram and pigeon peas which are the main export items to India, according to the Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association (MPBMSMA).

Under India’s policy, Myanmar has been allowed to export black gram and pigeon pea to India freely up to March 2025. According to the Memorandum of understanding of collaboration between India and Myanmar to trade black gram and pigeon pea under G to G system to export 250,000 tonnes of black gram and 100,000 tonnes pigeon pea from the Myanmar private sectors from 2021-2022 financial year to 2025-2026 financial year.
Therefore, negotiations are underway by the relevant ministries to extend free export of black gram and pigeon pea in coming years. Furthermore, the MPBMSMA also sends letters to India as well as discusses the matter at the meetings between the two countries, said the Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association (MPBMSMA).

The pulses and beans produced in Myanmar are mainly exported to India. India always issued notifications on bean import policies based on its production and consumption requirements at the end of every financial year.
