The prolonged rain on May 25 caused to water flooding into some neighbourhoods in Monywa, Sagaing Region. The water subsided on the morning of May 27, but locals said that it increased slightly again in the afternoon.
It was said that the communities that were flooded because of the heavy rains had poor drainage systems and reckless throwing of garbage, which clogged the drains and allowed water to enter homes. Yadanarbon, Myawaddy, Innywa Thit, Pyidawthar, and Chan Myawaddy wards are among the neighbourhoods that were inundated. According to locals, the water began to enter these neighbourhoods at 3 p.m. on May 25. The water level has risen to a level never witnessed in prior years since.
