The Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association (MPBMSMA) has announced that it plans to export about 90,000 tonnes of sesame seeds in the 2025-2026 financial year. It is expected to earn US$163 million from sesame exports this financial year.
Since sesame exports are still low, discussions are underway with trading partners to increase domestic production and find new markets, said U Soe Win Maung, advisor to the Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association (MPBMSMA) . Last fiscal year, about 74,000 tons of sesame seeds were exported, earning US$114 million in export revenue.
Myanmar sesame seeds are mostly exported to China, but they are also exported to countries such as Thailand, Korea, Japan and Singapore. FOB prices for various types of sesame seeds exported range from about US$1,150 to about US$2,590.
