More than 1.43 million tons of fertilizer and about 20,000 tons of pesticide were imported during the period from April to December, 2024, according to the Urea Fertilizer Purchasing and Distribution Steering Committee.
It was announced at the committee’s coordination meeting held on January 2.
The committee approved the import of fertilizers and pesticides according to the target and will continue to scrutinize and approve the remaining tons of fertilizer and pesticide to be imported in the present fiscal year, Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe, chairman of the steering committee said.
The steering committee publishes reference prices based on Yangon reference prices, local transportation costs and profit of shops in respective regions, states, districts and townships, and if it is sold at a higher price than the reference price, measures will be taken to scrutinize and supervise it, according to the steering committee.
