The Ministry of Health announced on August 19 that there are no confirmed cases of Mpox (monkey pox) in Myanmar.
Since 2022 On July 23, World Health Organization (WHO) declared Mpox (monkey pox) as an international public health emergency for the first time, 129 laboratory samples of suspected patients in Myanmar from 2022 to the present have been tested and there have been no confirmed cases, according to announcement.
The rate of infection in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and African countries will increase during 2024 and due to the rapid spread of a new strain of the disease (Clade lb) in the eastern part of the DRC and the cross-border and international spread, World Health Organization (WHO) declared Mpox (monkey pox) as an international public health emergency for the second time on August 14.
According to WHO’s disease risk criteria, Mpox (monkey pox) has a low risk of infection in Myanmar, but there are cases of infection in neighboring and regional countries.
So Ministry of Health monitor disease at the International Airport, ports and border entrances for disease prevention, cooperating with related ministries and If a patient is found, separate patient wards for disease prevention and control treatment, having the necessary medicine and medical supplies ready, give health knowledge to public on disease prevention methods.
It is said that Mpox (monkey pox) is transmitted through sex, skin contact meeting face to face, touching infected objects, direct contact with an infected animal.
If the public is sick, hand leg blisters with red spots in the mouth and genitals, swelling of fluid sacs, headache, muscle pain, having symptoms such as fatigue, those suffering from symptoms of fever and red spots/blisters, (Especially those who have returned from countries/regions where the infection has been detected within the last 20 days) should avoid traveling and report to the nearest health center as soon as possible and receive treatment, Ministry of Health announced.
