Under the guidance of the Yangon Region Government, the Maha Thingyan Festival being held at People’s Square in Yangon has seen an increased number of visitors and water players on April 14, the Thingyan Akya (descent) day. There are more than 10 pavilions organized by various ministries in Yangon Region, including the Thingyan Walking Festival and the Entertainment Pavilion.
According to some festival organizers, the People’s Square is more crowded with people on the Thingyan Akya Day than on the eve of Thingyan. The Thingyan Festival at People’s Square includes music and performances by famous singers and artists, dance performances by traditional choral dance troupes, as well as the Thingyan Walking Festival and the donation of Studitha.
In addition, water pipes have been installed at the ministry pavilions so that visitors can splash water. The 2026 Thingyan Festival is being celebrated in a grand manner in various districts and townships in Yangon Region.
