His government will consider granting pardons that are appropriate for the development of the country, social progress, reconciliation, justice and peace, President U Min Aung Hlaing said.
He made the remarks in his first address to the nation after being sworn in as President at the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw on April 10. President U Min Aung Hlaing said that the rule of law is essential as a fundamental foundation for the stability, peace and development of a country.
Therefore, he will prioritize ensuring that every citizen has equal access to legal protection, that he will not be wrongly convicted, that crimes and punishments can be tried fairly, accurately and quickly, and that the courts are fair and just.
In addition, the government under his leadership will focus on strengthening a multi-party democracy, building a union based on democracy and federalism, developing the country, and improving the socio-economic lives of the people. He also said that the government will set goals and implement them.
In doing so, President U Min Aung Hlaing expressed his belief that the challenges faced by the country can be overcome through unity and cooperation between all people and the government.
