An appeal has been made urging all ethnic people, including the Chin ethnic group, to work together with the State Government to bring an end to armed conflicts. This was stated in the message sent by the Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing , on the occasion of the 78th Chin National Day, which falls on February 20.
The message noted that the ongoing unrest, acts of violence, violations of the rule of law, and destructive activities that could lead to the disintegration of the State — including in some areas of Chin State — pose a serious danger to the country.
It also emphasized the need to be vigilant against internal and external destructive elements that are attempting to sow hatred and division among ethnic nationalities, undermining the bonds of friendship and kinship that have existed for thousands of years among the Union’s ethnic brothers and sisters. Particular caution was urged against incitement and the spread of narrow-minded ethnic ideologies.
Regarding efforts to end armed conflicts, the message stated that implementation is being carried out in line with agreements included in the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA). Meetings and discussions have been held with ethnic armed organizations, and the door remains open at all times for the achievement of lasting peace, he said.
The message further called for public participation in ongoing nation-building processes, encouraging people to exercise freedom and justice in accordance with laws, rules, and regulations, and to fully implement a genuine, disciplined multi-party democratic system. In addition, it expressed wishes that the Chin people continue to uphold their longstanding Union spirit and patriotism, serving the interests of Chin State as well as the Union.
