A fire broke out at a garment factory in the Wartayar Industrial Zone, Shwepyithar Township, Yangon Region, at around 12:20 p.m. on February 18. The blaze was brought under control at 8:58 p.m., according to a statement released by the Myanmar Fire Services Department.
The fire took nearly nine hours to extinguish. Due to its severity, Level 2 fire engines and headquarters units were deployed to the scene. Social welfare organizations and the Red Cross also assisted in the firefighting efforts.Some firefighters reportedly had to use oxygen due to heavy smoke inhalation, according to sources from certain social welfare groups.
As a result of the fire, the entire factory was destroyed and two workers lost their lives in the incident, according to reports circulating on social media.The Myanmar Fire Services Department stated that investigations into the cause of the fire, the extent of damage, and details regarding casualties are still ongoing.
