A special ceremony to confer an Honorary Doctor of Public Administration (DPA honoris causa) on Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Acting President and Chairman of the National Security and Peace Commission, was held at Yangon University on the morning of February 5.
The ceremony was attended by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, members of the Commission Prime Minister U Nyo Saw and his wife, Secretary of the Commission General Ye Win Oo and his wife, members of the Commission and their wives, Union Ministers and their wives, the Chief Minister of Yangon Region, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, the commander of Yangon Command, deputy ministers, rectors from international universities, professors and distinguished guests.
At the special graduation ceremony, Union Minister for Education Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein read out a report on Senior General Min Aung Hlaing’s achievements. The reason for conferring an Honorary Doctorate on the Head of State at the special conferring ceremony being held this evening is in recognition of his leadership in steering the country through the challenges and difficulties encountered during the process of political change, and his ability to systematically manage and resolve those issues, She said.
He faced challenges such as political pressure, economic sanctions, internal peace and national reconciliation, and reforms that were compatible with the international community, as well as efforts to develop the socio-economic life of the people, national stability, and the rule of law, she said. The successful holding of the free and fair multi-party democratic general election, which the people have been eagerly awaiting despite the challenges, was a milestone in the history of the Head of State’s role in Myanmar’s political leadership.
In addition, the Head of State’s achievements in the economic sector, health sector, security and defense sector, and regional and international security sectors were clearly read out. The ceremony was followed by the congratulatory speeches of the Rector and officials of international universities who attended the ceremony.Afterwards, the Rector of Yangon University conferred the Honorary Doctor of Public Administration on the Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
After the conferment of the honorary doctorate, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered a commemorative speech.
Additionally, the Rector of Yangon University delivered the commencement address, and the Registrar of Yangon University announced that the commencement address will be preserved in the Archivist’s Office.
