The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MHRC) strongly and unequivocally rejects the baseless media statement issued by the Malaysian Human Rights Commission on December 22, 2025, the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MHRC) said in a statement on January 15. The statement containing one-sided views and unsubstantiated allegations that ignore the sovereignty and difficult realities of Myanmar is strongly conemned.
In addition, the use of politically derogatory terms such as “military dictatorship” is a deliberate incitement without respect for a government, and directly violates ASEAN’s core principles of strengthening the unity of member states and non-interference.
Myanmar is an ASEAN member state with full sovereignty that is passing through a period marked by challenges related to peace and stability, and the government has stated that it is carrying out all necessary measures to restore normal conditions and to be able to implement a peaceful democratic process.
The statement also said that making arrangements to hold an election is a matter that falls within the sovereign rights of a state, and that any attempts by external organizations to prejudge the process or to impose restrictions or prohibitions on it are completely unjustified.
Therefore, the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission strongly condemned and rejected the unfriendly announcement, and urgently called on the Malaysian Human Rights Commission to immediately refrain from issuing further statements that would intensify tensions and deepen divisions within the international community, the statement said.
The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission also urged all relevant organizations to respect Myanmar’s sovereignty as well as the interests and well-being of the Myanmar people, and to support inclusive and unrestricted peaceful dialogue.
