The Taunggyi Tanzaungdaing Festival will be extended for another three days due to weather conditions, Shan State Government Spokesperson, Minister for Economic Affairs U Khun Thein Maung, told One News.
The Taunggyi Tanzaungdaing Festival has been held at the Awaiyar Hot-air Balloon Field in Taunggyi Township since October 29 and was originally scheduled to run until November 5. Now, the Taunggyi Tanzaungdaing Festival Hot-air Balloon competition will be extended until November 8 as the number of night-launched Hot-air Balloons cannot be released daily, said Minister for Economic Affairs U Khun Thein Maung.
“Although it was scheduled for the November 5, the balloon cannot be launched due to the weather, so it was extended to November 8. An awarding ceremony will be held on the November 8. The main thing is that only one balloon can be launched per night, so we actually intended to launch about 14 balloons per night. After November 1, only two balloons can be launched per night, so it is at the request of the fans. Another reason is that the date has been extended at the request of the people who are organizing the balloon launch,” said U Khun Thein Maung.
In the Taunggyi Tanzaungdaing Festival Night Balloon Launch Competition, there were 22 feet 25 balloons, 25 feet 18 balloons, Sein Na Pan 18 feet 37 balloons, totaling 80 balloons, and in the Day Balloon Launch Competition, there were 193 two-legged balloons, 93 four-legged balloons, a total of more than 440 balloons, representing 75 categories, have been registered to compete. The Taunggyi Tanzaungdaing Hot-air Balloon Festival has been held since 1950, and this year, the number of visitors to the festival has increased compared to previous years.
