The Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) to be used in the upcoming general election can be used for many years if it is properly maintained, Union Election Commission(UEC) member U Aung Lwin Oo said. U Aung Lwin Oo was responding to a question from One News after a press conference on the election held at the UEC office in Nay Pyi Taw on September 11.

The cost of one Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) is about three million kyats, and more than 50,000 voting machines are to be produced. Election Commission member U Aung Lwin Oo said that the machines will be produced to ensure that they can be used in all polling stations across the country in the upcoming general election. Currently, more than 2.2 million people have tested the MEVM voting machine across the country, and the machine malfunctions are low.
The MEVM is the first voting machine to be used in Myanmar’s election history.
