Myanmar has officially applied to become a permanent member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and is confident of its success, said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Htun, head of the National Defense and Security Council Information Team.

The statement was made in a response to the working visit (first part) which is Tianjin Trip of Acting President of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. During the visit, he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and discussed the recognition and assistance for Myanmar in political and international affairs, and the upcoming general election in Myanmar, as well as assurances that China will continue to help Myanmar in maintaining peace, stability and development, said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Htun.

The working visit to China was a successful one and brought many benefits to Myanmar and Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Htun also urged Myanmar citizens to strive for peace and stability and unity as it has helped to enhance Myanmar’s international intigrity.
