The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced at 7:30 am on July 22 that river water levels in Madauk and Ngathaingchaung were above danger mark.
The Sittoung River water level in Madauk is about 1.5 feet above the danger mark and could rise by 2 inches over the next day and remain above the danger mark.
Similarly, the Ngawun River water level in Ngathaingchaung is about 3 inches above the danger level and is expected to rise by 2 inches over the next day and may remain above the danger mark, the statement said.
Therefore, residents living near the riverbanks and low-lying areas in Madauk and Ngathaingchaung have been advised to avoid flood-prone areas, the statement said.
