A special implementation plan to prevent and control dengue fever in Yangon Region has been conducted from July 21 to 30, according to the Yangon Region Public Health and Medical Services Department.
The special plan will be implemented with increased momentum in townships with high dengue fever incidence in Yangon Region.
This year up to date, 12 people have died from dengue fever in Yangon Region, said an official from the Yangon Region Public Health and Medical Services Department.
While most deaths and cases of dengue fever have occurred in children aged 5 to under 9 years, and this year, dengue fever has been detected in people aged 2 months to 85 years.
Therefore, to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, measures such as larval source reduction, larvicide application, and mosquito spraying will be implemented simultaneously across all 44 townships in Yangon. The special plan will be implemented under the leadership of the Public Health Department of the Ministry of Health, with the collaboration of township general administration office, the Red Cross, Firefighters and social welfare organizations.
