The water level of Ayeyawady River in Myitkyina, Kachin State, has risen by about 2 inches above the danger mark, according to a statement released by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology at 7:30 am on June 2.

The river’s water level in Myitkyina is expected to rise by about 1.5 feet in the next 24 hours and remain above the city’s danger mark. Residents living near the riverbanks and in low-lying areas in Myitkyina Township have been warned and urged to stay away from flood-prone areas.
According to the statement released by Myanmar Fire Services Department, due to the heavy rains and rising waters of the Ayeyawady River, low-lying areas in Myitkyina have been flooded since the morning of June 1, prompting rescue and evacuation efforts.
