A total of 89 basic education, industrial, agricultural and livestock breeding high schools are set to open in the 2025-2026 academic year for students who have successfully completed Grade-9, according to the Department of Alternative Education.
Although it was set that students who wish to attend are able to apply for admission from May 22 to June 1, their applications will be accepted if they are late to meet the deadline for various reasons. Textbooks will be provided according to the relevant specialized subjects, and an education stipend of 10,000 kyats per student will be provided for 10 months, an official of the department said.

Basic education, industrial, agricultural and livestock breeding high schools have been opened since the 2023-2024 academic year, and more than 9,200 students have already enrolled for this academic year.
In addition, arrangements are underway to open a polytechnic institute that will be open to those who failed the university entrance exam, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing has said at a meeting with department officials and town leaders at the city hall in Kengtung, Shan State (East), on May 24.
