Some politicians in India should respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Myanmar, said Head of State Administration Council Information Team Maj- Gen Zaw Min Tun. These remarks were given in response to the Hindu news website report that mentioned India Mizoram MP K. Vanlalvena’s visit to the northwestern regions of Myanmar bordering India to meet with the groups of CNF ၊ CNA and Chin PDF, the implied statement of an MP of Manipur State saying Tamu-Kabaw Valley areas belong to India according to the history at the meeting of the Upper House of India and the remark of the Chief Minister of Mizoram Lalduhoma saying at Mizoram Parliament on 10 March about the arrivals of foreigners to Myanmar through Mizoram.
He said that Myanmar and India are good friends and the Myanmar government does not want groups using Indian territory to oppose Myanmar and does not accept groups using Myanmar territory to oppose the Indian government.
The Myanmar-India border stretches for over 1,010 miles or 1,626 kilometers. Of them, more than 907 miles or over 1460 kilometres have been measured and the Kabaw Valley area has also been included in the areas measured and recognized before.
There is also a Memorandum of Understanding on Border Area Cooperation between Myanmar and India signed on May 8, 2014 as the demarcation of the Myanmar-India border, said Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun. In 2013, the BJP, an opposition party in India, campaigned to take back the Kabaw Valley region, which includes Tamu, Kalay and Minkin townships. Local residents in both the towns of Kalay and Minkin protested against this.
So, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said that some politicians in India should not act to damage bilateral relations solely for their own political interests and they should respect Myanmar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also said that Myanmar will continue to do what it should be informed and said regarding this issue.
