After Waziya Cinema has been renovated, it has been planned to use not only as a prestigious cinema, but also as a place for drama, theater, puppet show, music, discussions, meetings, studios, and artistic creation, it was learnt from the Ministry of Information.
Additionally, Waziya Cinema is said to be served to hold International film festivals, film-related commemorative events and festivals such as the Memory Film Festival, create a place for foreign tourists to visit as an ancient heritage museum, show old movies on weekends and present puppet shows and film-related exhibitions. Waziya Cinema which is situated on Bogyoke Street,Kyauktada Township, Yangon and it was named A 1 Cinema in 1947 and changed into Waziya Cinema in1968. Currently it has been renovating to be a prestigious cinema in Myanmar.
The architectural masterpiece of Waziya Cinema is a combination of French architecture of elements from the 16th to 18th centuries. It has been known to be decorated with reliefs and sculptures. As Waziya Cinema is located in the heart of Yangon, near Sule Pagoda it is a best place not only for the film industry but also for all other arts-related activities, and is also an excellent place to promote and spread the country’s cultural values.
